Warren Hawke [return]
Signs for Morton.

We are delighted to announce that former Morton player Warren Hawke will join the Club to oversee various parts of the Club’s development – starting with the creation of an elite youth system.

Warren, who scored 53 goals in 247 appearances for the club over two separate spells, will work behind the scenes on a consultancy basis to assist in various key areas.

Preparatory work has already begun on the first objective, which is to introduce an improved youth set-up that “Inverclyde can be proud of” by the start of next season and expanding the good work which was started by John Laird in 2010.

The new structures will see the club increase the number of teams from two to a minimum of four out of the six age groups from under-13 to under-19 in the SFA Youth Initiative or the SFL league with personnel ready for the start of next season.

We have seen too many talented boys heading out of the area to play for other clubs and the aim is to bring the top local players to Morton, develop them from a younger age and ultimately give them the chance of playing at the highest possible level.

One part of Warren’s role is to ensure we are accessing all of the relevant funding streams available, and this will make a massive contribution to the Club. Transparency is one of the key criteria for the supporters to see. Warren will be paid for the work that is carried out on a contract basis and there will be no hidden payments, such as a percentage of the fee from the sale of any players.

Warren is as an outstanding choice to help us achieve our goals as through his work over the past 10 years he has opened up lines of communication with officials and individuals who are in a position to assist the Club which is absolutely vital in the way forward.

A full report will appear in the Greenock Telegraph.

The principal fundraiser for our Youth System is our Sportsman’s Dinner which is being held this year in the Port Glasgow Town Hall on 12th May 2012. The line up and back by popular request is Gary Skyner, comedian Gary Marshall and the MC for the evening will be Joe Harper. Tickets priced at £50 available online or by post.
