Interview with Michael Tidser

in depth profile.

Michael Tidser was signed in the Christmas transfer window of season 2009/2010 having spent six months with Swedish team Östersunds FK after leaving Celtic’s under 19 team.

His release from Celtic was regarded with surprise in many quarters as he was captain of their highly successful under nineteen side. In fact in 2008 no less a personage than Henrik Larsson wrote for the BBC that he regarded him as the best player at under nineteen level in Scotland!

Initially signed on an eighteen month contract by then manager, James Grady, Michael’s performances during last season saw him watched by the other half of the old firm via their assistant manager Kenny McDowall. Fortunately for Morton, nothing came of that and Michael agreed a new three year contract in the summer of 2011.

Michael is a cultured midfield playmaker with the ability to emerge from tight situations with the ball. He is always on the look out for the “killer” pass. He is comfortably two footed but favours his left footand tends to occupy the left central slot in midfield.

As a Celtic under nineteen player, he scored many spectacular goals but, whilst he has been effective in his general play for Morton, he has scored only a solitary goal in his first season and a half. Always looking for improvement in his game, he has set a personal target of scoring more this coming season.

It says a lot about how Michael is regarded by the management at Morton when, in these straightened times for Scottish Football League clubs, he was offered a new three year contract. It is obvious that Alan Moore believes there is much more to come from this player who is still only 21 and that’s a belief shared by many well informed observers of the Scottish game!
