Interview with Peter MacDonald
in depth profile.Peter (Peaso) MacDonald started his youth career at Rangers and was top scorer in their under 21 side in season 2000/2001. With funds available from a transfer fee received from Celtic for Momo Sylla, then St Johnstone manager, Sandy Clark made the unusual move of paying a substantial sum, £125,000 for a youth player.
Peaso joined Saints at the start of season 2001/2002 and went on in a ten year career with the club to appear 251 times for them, scoring 57 goals. It is fair to say that his time at St Johnstone was dogged by injury, some of them keeping him out for months at a time but it speaks volumes for how the club regarded him that, despite his injury record, he remained with them for so long. The worst of his injuries were in the earlier part of his time with St Johnstone and he took part in every competitive match played by St Johnstone in 2006/2007 and most of the following season. In season 2009/10 he won a regular place back in the team and scored the perfect hat trick in St Johnstone’s 3-1 boxing day victory at Motherwell – perfect in that he scored one with each foot and one with his head! Another injury in scoring at Kilmarnock kept him out the team but he won his place back in 2010/2011, making 29 appearances for St Johnstone and finishing the season as first pick striker. After a lengthy trial period in the summer of 2011, Peter was persuaded to join Morton and be re-united with his striking partner at St Johnstone, Andy Jackson, as well as another former team mate, Stuart McCaffrey. At the time of writing, Jackson has played two competitive games and scored 5 goals. Peter Macdonald has had a hand in almost all of those goals showing what a potent partnership they are! Peter is one the best group of strikers Morton have had for many seasons to the excitement of all associated with the club!
